Anxiety! I think that could be a good word for the mental state of our nation when our space shuttle was about to return to earth and found it had a serious problem which left a big question as to its safe return trip home.

Here was a magnificent ship, built with detailed planning, costing millions of dollars… in question of safety because of a small square of paper-like substance between two pieces of plastic tile on it’s skin. Unless this protrusion was removed, the safety of the ship, on their trip home, was in jeopardy, and they did not dare to proceed. Fortunately, they found a way to solve the problem, but not without possible risk of life to the one who performed the task.

Our lives too, are in jeopardy of making it, from our outer space home on earth, to heaven safely. The intrusion of a foreign object, we know as sin, gives us anxiety regarding our safe destination. It must be removed to give us assurance and peace of mind, while traveling home. Who could, and would be willing to volunteer his life to remove this deadly blockage and remove the anxiety?

Aren’t we happy that One, Jesus…was willing and able, to perform this horrendous task, by coming from outer space and giving His life on Calvary’s Cross. Through Him, we have the provision of safety while traveling to heaven.

Jesus said, ”I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh to the Father but by me.” (study this) John 14:6.

Paul reminds us to, “Be anxious for nothing but everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” Phil. 4:6,7.

For the astronauts the problem was resolved and with peace of mind, they continued their plans to return. The provision for the safety of our trip home is also resolved…through Jesus! Anxiety in both instances has been removed. Let’s be Thankful.
