At beginning of the year 2000, Y2K was on the lips of almost everyone. Some ignored it, some planned, some were fearful. Today, Sept. 11th is on our hearts and lips. When we are unsure of upcoming events that are out of our control, we become apprehensive and sometimes panic sets in. Fear-gripping situations have always been a part of human society. . . Parents fear for their children's health and safety. Losing a job, illness, the stock market, you name it. Many things bring anxiety to the surface. Remember Elijah who fled from Jezebel? Peter, who lied because he feared the maid at the fireside? The Disciples who panicked in the storm at sea? The Shepherds who were afraid when they saw the angels announcing Jesus' birth? Fear seems to be second nature to us. From childhood to the grave there are unnumbered situations that cause us to be afraid. In fact it started way back in the Garden of Eden. After Adam sinned, he hid from God. In Genesis 3: 9,10 Adam said he was afraid. Since the beginning, fear has been in the heart of man. There are at least 67 references where God challenges us to "FearNot", along with His promise to care for us in every trial. How precious is His love to us. He knows how weak and helpless we are, and is mindful of our every need. Listed below are a few of God's treasured promises. We will do well to
plant them in our hearts and use them for our strength and encouragement as
we travel the pathway ahead. |
